Last year I began Koh Rong Emergency Services and Medic Program on the paradise island of Koh Rong in Cambodia. Before this there were NO medical services of any kind on the island and I was the guy everyone went to when they sick or injured. I was the only person with any medical training as a Wilderness First Responder. After a couple of years doing this on my own I was challenged in a bet to open the clinic.
They said I couldn't do it.
Five minutes later I rented out our first clinic space.

We have been in motion ever since, but it hasn't been easy. The clinic is completely funded and run by donations and medical volunteers. We have only been able to remain open because of the generosity of the local ex-pat community and because I have spent every extra possible dollar I can on the clinic.

We provide emergency care and trauma service on Koh Rong to the local Khmer (Cambodian) population, Western ex-pats living and working on the island, and travelling tourists. We have set up an emergency radio system where a medic can be reached 24/7 and we have daily daytime and evening walk-in hours. In addtion to the care we offer, we also share knowledge hosting First Aid and Emergency First Response classes on Koh Rong and surrounding islands free for anyone to attend. 
 
Our volunteer medics are giving their skills and service to population who may have no other means of healthcare and limited resources in times of need. Cambodia has less infrastructure than the surrounding countries and is still recovering from the Khmer Rouge genocide. In a part of the world where medicine is a luxury, not a privilege, the gratitude exhibited by the local population, as well as travelers is truly real and truly felt.

With 5$ we can buy a whole round of antibiotics, with 100$ we can evacuate someone to the mainland when the injuries are more serious than we can treat.
We are doing good work everyday and our goal is to continue the life of this dream.
