"It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men." — Frederick Douglass

My name is Jasmin Rhia and I’m a music producer and mental health advocate. My organization Artists of Morality aims to help prevent suicide and self-harm amongst our community.  Using the power of music, our goal is to create a curriculum that will educate the youth on mental health awareness.

For the last year we've been teaching kids the importance of understanding their worth. We perform our musical workshop "Know Your Worth " at schools, camps, foster homes, birthday parties, etc. During this experience we explain the power of speaking kind and powerful statements to yourself in a song format in order to shape the way you feel on a daily basis.

On a sheet of paper, we have the kids make a complete list of all the negative statements they either say to themselves or that others have said to them.  Using colorful flashcards,  the kids then translate their negative statements into positive affirmations. Lastly, we make a song together from scratch using the positive affirmations as lyrics! The kids take home their flashcards and are encouraged to recite them daily in order to increase their self-esteem.

The Importance of Teaching Self-Worth

A diminished sense of self-esteem starts young and can be directly linked to mental health issues. A child suffering from a low self-esteem can quickly escalade into the following:

Social Anxiety
Clinical Depression
Anger Management Issues
Unhealthy Relationships
Eating Disorders

The Main Causes of Poor Self-esteem Are:

Living in a toxic environment
Not being able to express and deal with their feelings in a healthy manner
Trying to follow unrealistic goals and expectations set by society
Pressure from the media to behave or look a certain way
Being treated poorly by peers and adults

In order for a child to succeed at handling all of life’s trials and tribulations, they must be taught early on how to love and respect themselves no matter what. With the majority of entertainment promoting negativity, the well-being of this generation is at risk if their remains a lack of positive guidance and enrichment in the content they consume. Every child deserves to be protected and nourished in an environment centered around peace, love, unity, and respect. With that being said, this campaign is to fund the production of a collaborative album and musical video series that will promote the importance of mental health amongst the youth.

 Project Objectives:

1. Improve the mental health of our community by using the power of music. A collaborative album of 10-14 songs will be written, produced , and recorded with fellow Artists of Morality . This album will serve as a curriculum for schools.

2. Visually educate the youth on ways to improve their mental health by filming the short musical series “Know Your Worth”. From the content of each video children will learn how to love and accept themselves, the importance of faith,  how to keep their spirits high, and express their emotions. They will be encouraged to be kind to others, seek a positive support system, and to think for themselves. They will also learn the importance of meditation, nutrition, physical activity, and spending time in nature.

Project Production Budget:

1. Production and Engineering of Album: $8,300
2. Music Equipment: $5,200
3. Animated Video Production: $28,500
4. Distribution & Promotion: $18,000
