The Sierra Rayn Foundation is participating in not just one clinical trial, but TWO!! We are launching this for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and hope that you will join us!
One trial is strictly for neuroblastoma, it will be under NANT and Dr. Villablanca. NANT includes 16 children's hospitals focusing on neuroblastoma.
Neuroblastoma Biology Study under NANT & Dr. Villablanca
This protocol will create a storage place or bank where samples of blood, bone marrow, and tumor will be kept to provide a number of samples large enough to allow researchers to do studies on neuroblastoma tumor cells and other normal cells that interact with the tumor. This study will also use a highly accurate new test to identify and measure tumor cells that may be in your bone marrow or blood to see if this new method improves evaluating the effect of treatment.
The other trial is for neuroblastoma and 18 other childhood cancers under Dr. Sholler.
Molecular-Guided Therapy for Childhood Cancer under Dr. Sholler
The purpose of this study is to test the feasibility (ability to be done) of experimental technologies to determine a tumor's molecular makeup. This technology includes a genomic report based on DNA exomes and RNA sequencing that will be used to discover new ways to understand cancers and potentially predict the best treatments for patients with cancer in the future.
As a foundation, we believe that both trials are important to understand childhood cancer. One of them looks at the tumor and what makes it tick, so that we can find better therapies for children. Once we know what makes the tumor tick and respond, we can hopefully look towards better treatment and even a cause.
The other one looks at the DNA of a child and can come up with that child's own protocol instead of grouping everyone together.
Just because Tylenol works for you, doesn't mean it will work for me. Well, chemo and other therapies are the same way. The COG may work for one child, but not for the other.
Whether you want to give $5, $10 or even $500 - you're not giving to just ONE trial - you're giving to TWO.
