Matt Smith's Emergency Medical Fund

Donation protected

Halfway around the world, in Southeast Asia, my Aussie friend, Matt, was struck by a car while riding his moto (US: moped). It was a hit and run and Matt was left crumpled on the roadside. Matt, the father of four young children and loving husband to Kimbra, sustained serious injuries which require "Western" style medical attention. While Matt & Kimbra are focused on getting Matt the aid he needs, with their permission, I've decided to do my part by starting this Go Fund Me campaign. Please consider how you can help.

Who are Matt and Kimbra Smith?

Matt & Kimbra originate from South Australia. Having heard the call of God in their lives, they sold their belongings and moved with their children to  Southeast Asia.

Why are Matt and Kimbra in Southeast Asia?

Matt and Kimbra have a passion for assisting children who have been trafficked sexually. They are heavily involved in ministering in a variety of ways to these young children. Due to the nature of their work, I have been purposefully vague. However, Matt and Kimbra both play vital roles in changing the future for these young children.

What are Matt's injuries?

Many areas of his body suffer from "road rash", his face included. He sustained some facial injuries which have caused swelling. He has a fractured left leg, cracked heel bone, an almost severed toe, and obviously serious bruising and other aches. Matt has already undergone one surgery on his foot to ensure proper cleaning and attachment of his toe. There maybe further surgeries depending on further medical evaluation. He will have a cast on his leg due to the fracture as well.

What other costs have Matt and Kimbra incurred?

Matt's moto was obviously totalled. This will need to be replaced as it is a vital method of transportation in Southeast Asia. They have assumed costs of medicine, transportation to various medical facilities, and other family-related costs that happen during incidents like this.

Why $3,500?

Matt and Kimbra, in less than 36 hours, have amassed over $7000 (US) in medical bills. Insurance will pick up the majority of these costs. Keep in mind that this is a tremendous burden in a third world country. With upcoming medical visits, and possible surgeries, Matt and Kimbra could easily double this figure. Just as in "Western" countries, typically one pays several costs upfront while submitting invoices to insurance. With  these and other expenditures, I believe $3500 is a feasible, reachable goal to help them financially.

Already living on a significantly tight budget as missionaries, this unexpected event can cause tremendous stress on their bank account. Obviously this is the Christmas season as well. With four young children in a foreign country, there is a great opportunity for us to encourage them during this holiday.

Please consider how you can help. Thank you.
