Kitten Calfee

$7,451 of $15,000 goal

Our beloved Kitten Calfee has made the decision to start his life anew, and live as the happy, healthy, gentle man that he was born to be. He has made the bold decision to ask for help. We have created this campaign so the people who love and care about Kitten can donate to his future.

Kitten’s life has always revolved around community service. He was the founder and, for many years, the driving force behind “Comfort & Joy” who's mission is to “advance queer values, globally and at Burning Man, by building community and creating spaces celebrating art and creative expression”. Comfort & Joy has helped unite and support the queer communities by creating spaces and events that celebrate our diversity and creativity. For many of us, Comfort & Joy has been integral in us meeting and collaborating with one another. This was all because of Kitten's vision, passion, and dedication.

More recently, he entered into a physically and mentally abusive environment. It's been hard for him to find his way back into our communities, and he's been a bit adrift. While he tried to work things out himself, it was too much and things went too far downhill. When he was finally able to leave this environment, he left with many bruises, only a few items, and the clothes on his back.

Today, Kitten is on the journey to wellness. He is committed to finding his way back to a healthy life. While he has several friends supporting him through this process, we need your help. As many of you know, San Francisco is an expensive city, and starting anew here is really difficult.

The funds we raise for him will be managed by a trustee to assure that they are spent appropriately. Kitten wants to show that he is committed to living this new path forward in a healthy way.

The funds we raise will give him time to secure a job while helping to create a stable living environment. He needs to find a place to live, a phone, and a computer. The rest of the money is for furniture, prescribed medication, doctor’s appointments as needed, and basic living expenses. What we want is for him to be completely secure and have all expenses paid for about three months. This should take the pressure off him to do anything but look for a job and stay healthy. Our main goal is to support him in building a new foundation in which to thrive.

Please help him however you can. He’s given so much to so many of our lives, it would be wonderful if we could give back. Thank you!

Help spread the word!

Hello All!!

Kitten is doing SO WELL!! He is far healthier, happier and productive! He has been fulfilling all commitments made, he has actively pursued consequences for his abuser, and he has kept up his used book business to help pay for the phone gifted to him.

He goes to court on Friday December 2 and hopefully everything goes well and he gets what he requests (so think positive!)

He needs HELP now though. He's done in this facility on December 22nd and needs a place to live. If you know of any places available, please let him. If you know of anything please contact him on Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/kitten.d.calfee?fref=ts

It's an exciting time for Kitten and you all made it possible! He is really humbled by all these donations and is so appreciative. So thanks to all of you.

Much love,
Gigi

Hello all!! Thanks so much for supporting Kitten and showing such great faith in him! I spoke with him today and he is really humbled. He wants to mail you all a thank you, so if you see this, please leave your address here in a comment if possible.

Meanwhile, he just entered a safe house AND he just got a phone (his disappeared on a bus) so he is really feeling good. He says the safe house makes him, indeed, feel safe, which is a great feeling after the abuse he went through. The thing is, he is very clear that he wants to focus on the positive and not the negative. While he's working on getting papers in place to make sure his Ex can not, legally, be anywhere near him, there were some good things in the relationship and he recognizes that. He's also working to leave the facility better than when he arrived. He's hoping to paint the walls of his room for example. He's really making the most of his situation. :-)

He's also noticing some things about himself that he is investigating further in hopes of understanding himself deeper. He asked me to share this with you as he thought we might not be aware of these things. He feels he is very ADD and that he has self-medicated that in the past. Now he is committed to getting evaluated and treated for it instead. He also feels he suffers from PTSD. (He received some horrible bullying while in school and still suffers from it). He wanted me to note that sometime PTSD looks like you're high when you're sober, for example.

Interestingly, I found an article on that. PTSD signs include unpredictable bouts of rage or irritability, obsessive behavior, maybe a part of OCD or a hypersensitivity to change or chaos, fast talking and stumbling over words, not talking at all, and sitting rigidly zoning out.

ANYWAY, the point is, he's not only doing great, he's already back in the community making it a better place and trying to help the rest of us understand the world around us.

Spread the word team, the more help he receives, the more empowered, and the sooner he returns to us the FAB Kitten that he is!!

Love Geeg (his cousin, admirer and temporary spokesperson)

Alex, I think it's safe to say that if his Ex is not going to show up in court, he knows he's guilty. So if you don't want to believe the man who was beaten up and left with serious (documented) bruises and broken glasses, perhaps you should leave your comments elsewhere.

Christina, Before posting that his ex was abusive did you even contact him and get his side of things? I don't think you did. I happen to know both Kitten and his ex, and I can say that he is NOT abusive.

You were so sweet to me when I joined the Comfort & Joy camp at Burning Man some years back. All power to the forces that move us towards our deepest humanity. Dragonfly aka Kim
