Kisses for Kycie - Diabetes Signs

Background
Kycie Terry was born October 11, 2009. She was a bright, energetic, healthy sister to 5 brothers. On January 30, 2015, Kycie was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes after experiencing flu-like symptoms for the previous 5 days. She was Life-Flighted to Primary Children’s Hospital in SLC that same day. However, before reaching the hospital, Kycie suffered 2 seizures and fell into a coma. Her parents were told she suffered a severe traumatic brain injury as a result of her extremely high blood sugars.

Kycie was not expected to live and if she did somehow survive, she would be severely handicapped the rest of her life. With the love and support of her family, Kycie defied the odds and started a long recovery process. She spent 111 straight days in the hospital relearning the simple things she so quickly lost. Kycie went home with her family on May 24. She continued progressing at home, but unexpectedly passed away July 11, 2015

Kisses for Kycie
Kisses for Kycie is a non-profit foundation created to help spread awareness and educate families and health care providers of the signs and symptoms of Type 1 Diabetes along with the dangerous and some times fatal results of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA).

Diabetic Ketoacidosis is a life-threatening condition which often develops quickly when the signs and symptoms of Type 1 Diabetes have been overlooked or mistaken for other illnesses. A simple glucose test can detect early onset Type 1 Diabetes and stop diabetic ketoacidosis before it kills!

Salt to Saint Bicycle Race
My name is Michael Hawley. On September 23rd & 24th 2016. I will be taking part in a bicycling event called Salt to Saint. Many people complete this event as a relay, but I will be riding it solo non-stop from Salt Lake City to St. George, Utah along Highway 89. The ride will be 430 miles and will likely take between 25 and 30 hours to complete.

As part of this event I will be working to raise awareness and money for the Kisses for Kycie Foundation. Please consider donating to the cause. 100% of your donations will go to the foundation. I am covering all event entry fees and associated costs myself.
