Help Kirstin and the Barramundis get to London for the 2016 World Ultimate Games!

Hi everyone. My name is Kirstin Auker- my teammates call me "Auka" I currently live and work in Australia. Over the course of this campaign I have travelled all over playing frisbee and meeting the Australian Frisbee community. During the extended tryout process, I was lucky to play with and against some of the most talented Ultimate players from all over the country.

I am absolutely honored to have been selected to represent Australia at the 2016 World Ultimate Championships in London, in June. Like the Olympic Games, the world championships occur every four years and represent the pinnacle of our sport.

I will be playing  in the Mixed Division for my team 'Barramundies', which is comprised of Australia’s best 10 men and 13 women in this division. I consider this to be a once in a lifetime opportunity  and I am feeling very proud to be a part of this team and this community. This campaign, and the people along the way, have not only pushed  me to be a better athlete, but also a better human being.

We have all been training very hard since around November 2015 and now the tournament is less than a month away. As many of you know, I was managing the horticulture on a diversified farm for the past year and half. Despite it being incredibly challenging to balance my work and my sport, I was super focused on the goal of making it to the World Games. I would finish working 13-hours farm work in the hot summer sun and go to the beach for a workout, run or a throw. Knowing that my teammates have been working so incredibly hard in the gym and on the fields has been such a genuine motivation and inspiration to push myself, even when I was feeling exhausted.

I have been part of many teams in my lifetime and I can honestly say this is one of the most special groups I have ever been a part of. There is so much heart and passion and spirit and talent. There is a true sense of community and support. I feel lucky and blessed. I would like to invite you to be apart of this journey with me.

As amateur athletes, we balance professional, personal and athletic commitments while aspiring to bring home the gold! Like all amateur sports, the costs associated with participating at the elite level are significant. The world championships are no exception. On average, each National Team athlete will spend between $5,000 and $5,500 AUD on their quest to win a world title. These costs include airfare, room and board for tryouts, training camps and the eight-day championship tournament, plus entry fees, equipment, Coaching staff and more.

Any donations, small or large, will be greatly appreciated and support me in my quest to compete in London. I thank you in advance for supporting this journey and our World Games Dream.

Lots of Love,

Kirstin
