Greetings from Eric Howell in the studio! I am releasing new recordings this year and I am reaching out to you, in hopes of crowdsourcing the project. My first album (Greatest Hitch Vol One) was released back in '08 (six years ago, can you believe it?!?!) this time around I've brought in some top players and producers for the new record and we have a great team in place for our planned release in September 2015. It's unanimous that my new tunes are turning out to be truly great, classic songs just waiting for public consumption. Nice to hear that! What I don't have is up front funding to record an album of this scale so I'm crowd funding it thru GoFundMe.com and I'm grateful to all who have backed this project in such a short time! In a little less than three months I'm half way to goal, with about three weeks left in the campaign before I need to submit the finished master recording for pressing, distribution, etc. I'm looking to finish the record this month with a release party in September.  All songs will be available at the usual digital outlets (iTunes, Amazon, etc).

There's no catch-all way to 'make it' in the music industry anymore. It's all about niche markets and finding and knowing your audience. That's good news for artists like me!  So please take a gander at the GoFund link, check out the 'event' benefits and rewards you'll receive for pledging funds towards this project. I will play a private party for you at a reduced rate (one of several Event benefits for pledging your donation). Not everyone can afford to pledge funds in these financial times, but just know that if you do contribute you will receive many perks! You can scroll down the GoFundMe page to see real-time video of the recording process, who's involved, what the songs sound like, etc. And please don't hesitate to share this with any of your music loving friends, family or colleagues who you think would perhaps support music like mine (you know, Tom Petty, jangly, Wilco meets hook-laiden Beatlesque rock n roll stuff)!  If you'd like to contribute outside of the GoFundMe platform and simply mail a check to me direct, several friends and fans have gone that route as well. That works, too.  Feel free to email me with any questions you might have. And thanks for taking time to read this we're almost there! Jimmy Fallon awaits!

In music,

Eric

Hey friends and lovers: This Saturday night at Martyrs is the night. Two years of work and one sloppy party. This is YOUR party, an evening where I get to thank you in music which you helped create. Keep that in mind going in. The show kicks off with The Bigger Empty at 9PM, a band fronted by Mike Felumlee of Smoking Popes, who also plays drums on the King Mixer record. Reuben Baird plays bass in The Bigger Empty and Reuben co-mixed the King Mixer album, so it's a family affair. Come early and give the gift of shouting your support to these fellas. Then Phil Angotti does his Brit rock thing. King Mixer (backed by the sultans of Southport - Red Pop Fury) will headline this event. I'm bringing in some terrific talent on this show, including Cliff Johnson, the voice of the legendary power pop band Off Broadway. Come see what we've created together. I'll close with a short video, which I hope to show on screen before we take the stage. If not, here is two years of creativity in the studio, blind alleys, eureka moments, and rehearsals at the final hour all leading up to this Saturday. And all because of YOU. Thanks for Hangin' on.

Here ye, Here ye! Mark your calendars: The King Mixer record release show for the album 'Hang On' takes place on Saturday, June 18th, at Martyrs in Chicago. With special guests: The Phil Angotti Band.

King Mixer is my name, King Mixer is my band, King Mixer is a night out with YOU and yours. I am he as you are he as you are me and we are all together. Typically, the completion of an album results in a record release show to launch things into the known universe. That's what we're doin' here. Naturally, everyone who generously backed the King Mixer record already owns it (and thank you for playing it, daily, as June 18 approaches). It's not about selling albums on this particular night. It's about giving you a face full of guitars and harmonies, bringing you, this record's Godparents, into a world of wild behavior, birthdays and brethren, a live horn section and various surprise musical guests, coming together in celebration of a project we began exactly two years ago this month. I'm excited to launch this music into the world like the screaming newborn spastic it is. We shall raise the roof as one, like proud drunk parents.

Phil Angotti is my doppelganger, my compadre, the musical yin to my yang. When Martyrs asked if I had an opening act in mind, I immediately said "Phil." The man has the dual-vocal capability of a solemn angel like Elliot Smith, or the razor-cut grit of a McCartney "Helter Skelter", which Phil conjures at will, repeatedly, without fail (the bastard). And he makes it look easy. We've traveled together to Liverpool, England and back in the name of vintage guitars, scouse accents and actualizing the dream. Many of you can testify to the joy and energy Phil puts into his musicianship, along with his band, but for those who don't know, June 18th is my chance to convert you. Angotti is a Chicago treasure and not to be missed. Lord knows we'll cross paths on stage more than once on this night.

Also confirmed:  King Mixer will be graced by the presence of power pop royalty during our set, with an appearance from legendary singer Cliff Johnson of Off Broadway. Cliff is featured as a guest vocalist on the Hang On record, during the 2nd verse of 'Don't Chu Think' (track 3). This is the time to roll down the windows and sing along to this blatant homage to power pop, a warm May breeze your only necessary audience.

It's all part of the King Mixer launch party, people, and we aim to mix it up with you!  So ring your sitters, bring your sisters and drag your most skeptical pals to this party.  They'll be thanking you for weeks afterwards, or your money back.

What's up guys. Earlier I had mentioned I've put a new line up together to rock the tunes off the new record in a live setting. Tomorrow night we will produce evidence of this, at Redline Tap in Rogers Park. We'll play a short set as part of the International Pop Overthrow festival (IPO as it is commonly known). This is an exciting phase of any band, the beginning, the finding of the sea legs. At this moment I find myself swabbing the deck with three guys who have been playing together under the name Red Pop Fury for well over a decade, and these three make up the nucleus of King Mixer live. Add the savant-like keyboards of one Matt Nelson (call him Nelly, he likes it) and geez, all I gotta do is figure out how to raise our sails, shouting 'land ho' all the way. Here's a video of yesterday's rehearsal as we forsook both Hawks and Cubs in the name of unfiltered rock. If you can make your way to Redline Tap tomorrow, it'll be even louder.
Closing in on that album release show. Stay tuned, boppers...stay tuned.

Greetings! It is with heavy gratitude that I can report to you all that the financial goal for my latest record has been reached! Surpassed, actually! I wanted to report this news before too much time gets away. The train keeps rolling on. I have assembled a great cracking band to perform the album tracks live, for your sonic pleasure! We are starting with a short set at this year's International Pop Overthrow Festival on Tuesday April 19th at Redline Tap in Roger's Park. School night? No problem. We hit the stage at 9:45PM and will be off the stage by 10:45. I'll be posting about this show in detail this week. Although the record hasn't officially been released yet, I am working on securing the right venue and land the right date for the official Album Release Party, so keep it right here. Meanwhile please continue to celebrate a successful campaign by spinning King Mixer music at every turn, soon to be blaring from every open window and car stereo near you! This album journey has been terrific, all thanks to the kind donations of good people like you, who help me to be a better musician and a better human being each time I play out. I look forward to playing for you soon, and if you still have a private party "make good" for me to play as a result of your donation, please reach out asap so we can secure a date this summer or fall (my calendar is filling up quickly). Thanks again and we'll see you next Tuesday at Redline Tap for the new King Mixer show!

In gratitude,

King Mixer aka Eric Howell
