Hello everyone! I've created this for a dear friend of mine, Keira White. For those of you who don't know, Keira was recently diagnosed with Autoimmune Encephalitis. (For more information, here's the link to the Autoimmune Encephalitis webite: https://aealliance.org/ )
Keira is a Sophomore Athletic Training major enrolled at William Paterson University. She is a dedicated student, and is always supportive of her family and friends. An interaction with Keira is nothing short of a bright smile and some definite laughter.
Over the past few months, Keira has been in and out of the hospital. She's experienced multiple seizures, loss of lucidity, and extensive IVIG therapy. Over the past month, she has been attending therapy to improve her cognitive skills and was doing incredibly well. She was able to come back to university this semester and attend classes, all while handling an extensive course load, which included finishing her classes from the previous semester, and continue her job with the university's Recreational Services.
Unfortunately, as of January 19th, her symptoms have reoccurred. She experienced another seizure after weeks of being seizure free and was readmitted into St. Joe's Hospital in Wayne. However, due to her condition, she was then transferred to New York Presbyterian Columbia Medical Center in Manhattan.
As of this date, January 24th, Keira is still admitted to NY Presbyterian and is receiving treatment until further notice. This journey has been, and will continue to be difficult on her and her family.
With all of this being said, there are some things that insurance cannot cover, and with no timeline of how long she will be staying in the hospital, these costs could continue to increase. Once medical expenses are covered, all remaining funds will be donated to the Autoimmune Encephalitis Alliance to further their research!
Any amount of donation that is received will be highly appreciated! Please keep Keira in your thoughts, and prayers as she continues to face this condition.
