Kim & Marisa Battaglini Kidney Transplant Fund

Donation protected
My daughter Kim (Levy) Battaglini was born with health issues that caused her to have surgery at age 3 due to a urinary blockage. Since then she has had chronic urinary and kidney issues.

Kim is a person who always puts others before herself. My daughter has always been willing to help the community and family members in need. Kim has been a significant member of our community. Kim’s most significant impact on her community was her 20+ years with the Girl Scouts of Western New York. Having two of her daughters in Girl Scout troops, Kim decided to donate her time and services, whether by being an assistant leader or the Cookie Lady. Kim also was a volunteer with the East Rochester Ambulance Corp. She volunteered for Sing Out for 20 years, Pink Fly Golf that raised money for Breast Cancer research, she volunteers for a White Party that raises money for HIV Patients, and she gives up 1 week every August to volunteer for the Aids Red Ribbon Ride that raises money for HIV research. There are so many other things that she gets involved with, that I can’t remember them all.

When my father was bedridden, she took care of him. Kim would do his shopping, and stay with him when his nurses didn’t show up. She was a single mom, but still did this while taking care of her child and working 2 jobs.

Kim opened her home to her father and I when my husband lost his legs to diabetes and could no longer do the stairs in our home. While there, she took care of my husband and hooked him up to his peritoneal dialysis on a daily basis. At the time, she was running a daycare out of her home and caring for 11 children including 3 of her own. Kim has also opened her home to others who needed a place to stay, and a hot meal.

After my husband passed away, Kim went back to school to get formal training in the medical field. Kim now works at Trillium Health; helping serve the underserved.

A few years ago Kim was told that her kidneys were failing and that she would need a kidney transplant. My granddaughter Marisa, offered to donate her kidney in order to save her mom, however upon testing we found out she was not a complete match for her mom. The hospital offered us a new program in which Marisa will donate her Kidney to another hospital and in return Kim will receive a kidney. This surgery is between $200,000 and $350, 000 each. Kim will also be taking anti-rejection medications for the rest of her life, which will cost roughly $7,000 per month. Both Marisa and Kim will be out of work for extended periods of time.

With 2 people who contribute to the household expenses including a mortgage, multiple student loans, three car payments, and with two being out of work they really need your help. We are asking for donations to help my daughter and her family through this hard time.

Thank you,
Lila Levy
