Kika's Pancreatic Cancer Fund

Our dear friend Kika (Christine Garcia-Concheso) was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer, Stage III, on June 18th. At this point, the only treatment available is chemotherapy. If she responds well and if cancer has not spread, she might be able to have surgery after several rounds of chemo, but the doctor suspects there are a few cancer spots on the liver too. We all know Kika, she is in severe pain, but always in a great mood and is enduring all the tests exceptionally well.
Housing Situation
Kika's house was severely damaged during the hurricane last year. There was significant flooding, and she lost almost all the renovations she had done to the house a few months before, including a brand new kitchen and flooring. She has been fighting with the insurance and just now got the approval to fix the house (although she did not get all the money she was asking for). She will start renovations soon and will try to sell the house as soon as it is done. Currently, her home has no kitchen, no living room, no washer/dryer and only one functioning bathroom. That was "fine" until she was diagnosed with cancer. Now she cannot stay there anymore, nor she can deal with the remodeling herself (to save money she was going to supervise it). We plan to rent her a small apartment, preferably near her son and his family immediately, since she will start chemo on July 13th. In the meanwhile and whenever she wants, she will stay at my house. She knows she is always welcome here (we set up a bedroom for her) and I will do everything I can to be with her at every medical appointment and treatment, but I know she would like to have her own place and be close to her grandson. By the way, Kika's son and his family live in a two-bedroom condo, so there is no space to accommodate Kika and her beloved dogs comfortably.
Work and Income
Work-wise; the situation is even tougher. Kika always worked as an independent contractor but has no new projects (nor she can take new projects right now.) So, she will have no income at all, but a very small retirement check.
Health Insurance and Medical Expenses
Her health insurance is Medicare, and she will have several out of pocket expenses. We also would like to get a second opinion from MD Anderson or John Hopkins in Maryland and to join medical trials around the U.S. that offer hope.
This gofundme campaign is to help us get through the next few months until her house is sold. She plans to use the house money to pay for her future expenses. Unfortunately, we cannot wait until she sells the house and, with no new project/work, she cannot afford to rent an apartment or pay for her mortgage, treatment, and medication.
