Dear Friends,
If you know Kristine even a little bit, you know that she is strong, resourceful, independent, and intelligent. When her son Kiernan was born she learned he had Down Syndrome - and she met his needs with heart and strength; she has changed her life and career to be his advocate and champion.
Earlier this year, she and Kiernan were faced with shock and tragedy when they suddenly lost her partner, Kiernan’s father, Byron.
Needless to say, it turned their world upside down, and they are still reeling.
Having a child with special needs has it challenges. There are specialist doctors (often an hour's drive away) and therapies and IEP meetings that must be attended - to name just a few.
Single-parenting has it's challenges.
SOLO-parenting a child with special needs - while trying to balance your grief, your child’s grief, therapies and doctors appointments, change of all kinds, and the legal and practical (and time consuming!) aspects that come hand-in-hand with unexpected death, as well as regular every-day demands… well that is just extremely trying, exhausting, and depleting.
Can you imagine?!
Though Kristine continues to work part-time, she is limited by Kiernan's schedule and needs, and the financial effects of having lost a contributor to their family is catching up with them.
Let’s help our friends. Let’s give Kristine more time to focus on being the stellar mom that she is to Kiernan, and more time to work towards healing (for both herself and Kiernan)- without the added stress of financial strain in such an already difficult time.
