Keep Kids Composting!

Donation protected
This school year, Siler City Elementary was one of only two schools in our district to pilot a compost program. The pilot was conducted with the help of Chatham County Solid Waste & Recycling and Brooks Contractors in Goldston.

As a result of our success in collecting food waste and other compostable material (like the lunch trays in the photo), Chatham County Schools is now considering a district-wide composting program next school year.  We are proud to be leading the way toward greener practices in our schools.

Now that the pilot composting program has ended, we need to raise $600 to continue composting through the end of the school year.

During the 3 months that our pilot program was operating, we composted 14,000 pounds of organic materials.
All those materials will enrich our Earth’s soil, instead of being disposed of in a landfill.  Your donation will allow us to keep a good thing going and help create a more sustainable future.

The video shows some of our students in January, when they were first learning how to sort the contents of their lunch trays.  After 3 months of composting, many of our students have become composting PROS! (Don't worry - we don't serve our kids Coke at lunch - That can came from a teacher!)
