Ankylosing spondylitis, or AS for short, is a form of autoimmune arthritis that targets the spine, although other joints can become involved. It causes inflammation of the spinal joints that can lead to severe, chronic pain, fatigue, and discomfort. It is just one of thousands of chronic illnesses that individuals suffer from daily.
A chronic illness is a condition that lasts for a very long time and usually cannot be cured completely, although some illnesses can be controlled or managed through lifestyle (diet and exercise) and certain medications. Other examples of chronic illnesses include: rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, Crohn's, COPD, cancer, etc.

Kickin’ AS (kickinas.com) was created to be a source of information and inspiration for AS Warriors and their loved ones who wish to better understand and help AS Warriors through their toughest moments. Together we can kick AS and bring awareness to the little known and even less understood disease.

50% of proceeds made from the Kickin’ AS website and blog (sales from shops and ads) are donated to the Spondylitis Association of America to help fund research.

We are working to add subscription boxes designed specifically for chronically ill patients to the list of products that we offer. These subscription boxes will be filled with items that will offer comfort, entertainment, and self/personal care items that will make the lives of these individuals easier.

There are many subscription box companies out there now, but the chronically ill community is underserved in this area.

The life of an individual with chronic illnesses can be lonely, gloomy, and physically/mentally/emotionally painful. We want these subscription boxes to brighten their day and make them feel better when they receive one.

Help us create these boxes to improve the lives of Chronic Illness Warriors and fund cure Ankylosing Spondylitis research in the process.

We are calling our subscription boxes Chronic Care Crates. There are three different sized crates that you can choose from.

A donation of $35 will get you one Mini-Warrior Crate (1 cozy item, 1 personal care item, 1 entertainment item and hand written note).

A donation of $50 will get you one Standard-Warrior Crate (Themed box of cozy items, personal care, healthy snack, entertainment, and life improvement products with hand written note.)

A donation of $85 will get you one Pampered-Warrior Crate (2 cozy items, 2 entertainment items, assortment of self/personal care and life improvement items, and hand written note).

***To receive items, donations cannot be anonymous - we must be able to contact you.
***Please also specify in your note which chronic illness you would like your crate to be customized for.

Today is World AS Day. The perfect day to get our first campaign donation for the Chronic Care Crates. I was out and about my hometown today wearing a blue Kickin’ AS Warrior shirt to raise awareness. You can expect similar shirts in the Chronic Care Crates to raise awareness for the chronic illness of your choice!
