On Friday, august 3rd, I received one of the most devastating phone calls of my life. My mom told me that my cousin was found dead. Circumstances are being investigated, but she was in a relationship with a man who regularly physically abused her, and who was in my cousin's apartment when she was found by a family member.
At this time, we don't have an exact funeral date, due to the circumstances, as they are investigating her death, but once the medical examiner releases her to her family, I need to be with them, because someone decided to take beautiful person away from us. Unfortunately, flights to Germany are around $1000.
Her and I grew up together, and she was only 9 months older. She leaves behind her mom, her sister, her 5 year old daughter, and a family that is devastated by her loss.
Any funds that are raised above and beyond what I need in order to go be with my family will be donated to a domestic violence shelter in my area, where I spent a semester working with women are survivors of similar circumstance.
