DEAR FRIENDS, FAMILY & SUPPORTERS,
On Sunday 14th I got notification that a last-minute application that I submitted on Friday 12 October, has been SUCCESSFUL & that I am now given a unique opportunity to be a participant in a World-Class Professional Training Course in the ‘transformative theatre’ techniques of late Brazillian pioneer, Augosto Boal. It is very specialist and specific training, which I’m going to be in a position to begin using almost as soon as I return. It is called ‘Jokering’ and ‘Rainbows of Desires’ training. It’s a complex set of multi-skills of leadership that i’ll be acquiring. It follows on as Next Level after attaining my Masters Degree (Goldsmiths University).
WHAT IS THE TRAINING FOR?
It’s an effective way of using theatre to practically help everyday People process & address, a multitude of oppressive situations: social / political / economics / race & sexuality / mental trauma etc - experiences that we know about & sometimes go through. In this form of theatre, there are games, exercises and there are specific techniques, which I shall be learning (experientially) how to effectively LEAD, together with other successful European participants.
HOW COMES ITS ‘LAST-MINUTE’?
I found out via a well-regarded Actor / Practictioner sent me a forwarded Messages on FB Messenger late Thursday night. I was out Performing. I enquires. Got knocked back. However, did not give up... I somehow got into email conversation requesting for these ULEX organisers to use my enthusiasm, which they appreciated, to ‘create the path for my inclusion’. I received that knock-back I looked into it deeper & it is definitely FOR Me, Khadijatou. I’m so glad I persisted, wIth HOPE... as they did indeed offer me an application form. (...The Path)
I did not sleep! Filled it in through the night & checked it for errors. They acknowledged they received it, on Saturday, the day after I heard about them looking for ‘last candidates’.
I GOT IN!
I was shocked & delighted when my email on SUNDAY just gone, told me that my application was looked at, considered as a self-funded applicant & I am IN!!!
They have welcomed me as a ‘Self-funded’ Participant. I’ve worked it out & know what I need to make it happen.
I DO NEED YOUR SUPPORT.
I’ve accepted this final challenge & I now need to secure £500 to travel (eco-friendly routes by organiser’s request), requIrIng 1 overnight stay.
I shall begin the long journey at this very weekend comIng. So, I am looking for a FAST TURNAROUND Support Campaign to obliterate this ‘hurdle’. RAISING £500. It Is ‘Doable‘.
I’m also investing my own finances too & I know I’m booked on a coach to Paris, so far. From Paris I have to travel from Coach station to airport far away, at nearly midnight. I’ll need to stay overnight & pay for room nearby the Airport, for an early flight to Barcelona. I then need to travel across Barcelona and get myself to the Central bus station for another 3 hour Coach. We / Participants are required to catch a specific 2.30pm Bus. When we arrive at our location in Tremp, Cataluña we are being met by the ULEX project coordinators.
It’s exciting & new & i’m out of all comfort zones! I’m prepared mentally. I do need to know I can make it and also be safe, especially being a Woman at night. To pay for secure transport at nIght to and from the course, from London to Cataluña and back.
