8th Grade Washington D.C. Trip

Hello, my name is David Hernandez and I am raising funds for my 8th grade students' class trip to Washington D.C. We are busy fundraising hoping to reduce the cost of the trip for our Sabin families. The cost per student is approximately $1,200 through BrightSpark Travel. By raising $10,000, each student's cost will be reduced by approximately $250.
My school is a Dual Language School located just northwest of downtown Chicago. We are 80% Hispanic, 17% African American with 88% of our students categorized as low income students. We have many students who are bilingual speakers, with their native language being Spanish. Our parents are hard workers, but often have to work the 2nd and 3rd shifts at their jobs and many of our students spend their afternoons and nights helping take care of their younger brothers and sisters. We are lucky that our students make good choices for their lives and we have no students affiliated with any gangs. Our students are enthusiastic to learn and would love the opportunity to discover and explore Washington D.C.
The Washington D.C. 8th grade class trip of 2016 will act as the culminating event for all the historical knowledge the students have gained in 7th and 8th grade reading and social studies classes. I believe it is imperative for our youth to learn about the history of this great nation. There is no better place to learn about our great nation than our nation’s capital, Washington, D.C. This trip will pave the way for my students to become active members of our society.
