Kevin King Miracle Fund

As many of you may have heard, my brother, Kevin King, was in a terrible crash last Wednesday on James Pond Road in Lee County.

From what the Georgia State Patrol can tell, he was traveling south when he ran off the right side of the road and struck a mailbox. At that point, it appears he  jerked the wheel which sent his truck careening across both lanes of traffic, over a ditch and head-on into an oak tree. By the grace of God, a witness to the accident was able to pull him out moments before the truck burst into flames.

Kevin's injuries were so severe, he was airlifted from the crash site to Grady Memorial's trauma center in Atlanta. The family made a mad dash north not knowing if he was going to make it, and all anyone could think about was his two young sons, Dakota, 12, and Cullen 7.

Here is the reality.

Kevin has four broken bones in his neck, cervical and thoracic spinal cord injuries and damage to his right lung from a blood clot. He is low on oxygen, battling a fever and has endured two emergency surgeries.

According to his doctors, neurological scans look good, but he has not moved his legs.

At best, he held my hand in the ICU and opened an eye to look at me. I told him I loved him and that I knew he loved me. He stared deep into my eyes, a tear ran down his cheek and he smiled. I held his hand and prayed.

He is communicating, but being fully intubated he can not yet speak- we are hopeful. To prevent movement, he is under heavy sedation.

Doctors estimate at least three more weeks in ICU to get him fully stabilized, after which, he will be transferred to the spine rehabilitation center with recovery times estimated in months and years.

Kevin is at the beginning of a very long and hard road during which he will need all the prayers that he can get, and also the generous donations from those who know him, love him and want to help.

There will be no foreseeable end to his medical expenses and costs incurred by my parents, Phil and Phyllis King, who will be his primary care takers. The only word that comes to my mind is astronomical.

My mother is already planning to move/relocate to Atlanta, at least until he is stable enough to be transported home, which his doctor said could be six months or a year.

Anyone who knows Kevin, met him, or had the opportunity to interact with him in some way knows that he is a wonderful and giving person always willing to help.

To say Kevin is kindhearted is a far too weak
description of his loving nature and right now, lying paralyzed and packed in ice, he needs your help. He needs a miracle.

Prayers and donations are desperately needed as soon as possible and will be graciously and gratefully accepted to make that miracle happen.
