Keven's Basketball Future!

Donation protected
Keven is a very talented 15 year old boy from Thornlie Christian College who desperately needs your help! His dream is to pursue a career as a professional athlete. His passion is basketball and he plays at every chance.

Keven's Story:

In 2008 when Keven was only 7, he walked into his parents' bedroom after school to discover his father had tragically passed away. It traumatised him so badly that he began to have suicidal thoughts. His mum had to raise him and his brother and sister alone, doing anything she could to give Keven and his siblings a roof over their head and food in their bellies. She didn't know how to help him overcome the trauma of his father's tragic death.

Then Keven discovered basketball when he was 13. His heart began to repair and he started to find a purpose in his life. His love of basketball turned into dreams of his future which curbed the suicidal thoughts.

Along came "Uncle Tim", who began to mentor him and encourage him along the way, driving him to training, games and becoming the only father-figure he had. Uncle Tim was firm but kind. Giving him advice but also discipline as he grew into a young man.

Keven now volunteer coaches his school basketball team and plays twice a week for two different teams, plus training. Uncle Tim drove Keven to and from his basketball commitments and supported him wholeheartedly through everything.

In the last few months, Keven has had scouts watching him and an exciting opportunity has come up that will see him placed at a US college with a scholarship to pay for his education while he plays basketball in the hopes of one day being in the big league. His greatest goal in life is to have an engineering degree and play in the NBA. Uncle Tim was such a support behind Keven, always believing in him that he could succeed.

Sadly, Uncle Tim was diagnosed with cancer in late 2015 and passed away only a couple of weeks ago.

The day that Uncle Tim died, Keven went before a judging panel of four assessors and played 2.5 hours of basketball. After he came off court, he received the sad news that Uncle Tim had passed away.

On Tuesday the 25th of October, only 3 days before Uncle Tim's funeral, Keven was interviewed by a talent scout to see whether they would accept him into a college in the US! They reviewed his school grades and asked him all sorts of questions. Uncle Tim's funeral came and went.

Then two days later, Keven received the wonderful news that he has been accepted for 2018! The only problem is there is a $3985 placement fee due by the 7th of November 2016 to reserve his position until 2018. That is when Keven will have graduated year 12 and old enough to travel to the US.

We would be so grateful if you could help to raise the amount needed to reserve his place in college for 2018. His mother is a single mother with 3 children and can not pay for this in such short notice.

Keven has worked so hard to come from where he was as a scared little 7 year old who didn't want a future, to a bright, intelligent young man whose talents could take him to huge success. Please help! We would be so very thankful!
