You might know Keri, an artist, maker, photographer and all round creative soul through her business HumbleCottage . Keri and Pete have been together 26 years, and they are - as you will be able to tell from these photos - utter, utter good 'uns. They are a joy to know, and they have always, without fail, been there for those who need them.
Keri was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease this summer 2019, which is a terminal diagnosis. This news has been a devastating blow for Keri, her husband Pete and the enormous group of people that proudly call themselves friends of this very special couple.
Sadly, there is no current cure for MND. The symptoms are already affecting Keri's life considerably, and all thoughts are now turned towards how she and Pete can be best supported on the next part of their journey.
Why this fundraiser?
Keri is determined not to end up in hospital and wants to stay on in their own cottage, which she and Pete share with world-famous doggy sand artist Yuki. The MND Association (www.mndassociation.org ) should be able to assist with a grant for the big things, like a stairlift, but there are other improvements which could massively improve Keri's comfort and enjoyment of the space - widening the access to the garden, for example, refitting the home for wheelchair access, and increasing light levels as the cottage is a little dark at the moment. These changes are urgent concerns: time is of the essence when it comes to this disease and how quickly Keri's symptoms are progressing. Pete has also become Keri's full time carer, so financially these costs are going to quickly add up.
So this fund is aimed towards helping Keri and Pete get their home to where they need it to be for the foreseeable future, albeit with the caveat that they may determine how it can best support them if their priorities change.
The funds raised will offer a financial safety net, but more importantly the head-space for Keri and Pete to focus on each other, and Keri's needs, as much as possible. You can donate big or small, once or as often as you like. In return we will provide photos, news and messages whenever possible.
