Kent Howes Medical Expense Fund

$11,565 of $20,000 goal

Raised by 160 people in 2 months
Created March 10, 2019
Kent Howes (Local trail building legend for COTA) was crushed by a 500 pound slab of ice falling from his roof. He is badly damaged with a crushed T6 vertebrae and badly broken arm that will require surgery. We are trying to raise funds to help him offset his medical costs, rehab expenses, and costs of living for the next 8 weeks. He works with his hands as a professional trail builder and has built many trails for free volunteering with COTA. He needs help during this time of need and appreciates any support you can provide. Thank you!

Kent Howes- April 12 2019

One month out from my accident, and being in much less pain and more clear headed, I wanted to reach out to everyone who’s supported me while I was lucky enough to be recuperating from serious injuries.

To Dr. Urch and Dr. Lilly, Thanks for putting my arm back together.

To my dear friend Mark Dejohn, setting up a GoFundMe page for me was a kind and generous act!

To my Mom, Stepdad, Kids, Sister, Uncle, Cousins and family friends, I’ve always known you love me, maybe sometimes not realizing just how much! Thank You!

To all my friends in the Mt.Bike community, I have never been more humbled by all your good wishes, love, concern, companionship and support.

To my musician friends, bandmates both past and current, I love you. Thanks!

To my fellow trail builders/volunteers, Thanks for your visits, phone calls and support!

To all my caregivers, Toni, Ali, Jason and Andy, my recovery would not be possible without you.

To Toni Low, my biggest advocate and frequent travel companion, thank you for helping set up Meal Train dinners, driving me to numerous doctor and hospital appointments, and being there for me in oh so many ways. Love You!

And to everyone who supported me through GoFundMe, Meal Train or in person, I am forever grateful for your gifts to aid in my recovery.

Thank You All!!

My left arm surgery is scheduled for next Wednesday! I hope they can put it back together again. I want to thank everyone individually for your donations but I also have head trauma as well so I am not able to look at a screen and text. I am dictating this note right now. As I improve I will thank everyone as soon as possible.

Note from Kent:
I am humbled and very appreciative for the outpouring of love and support. To experience this much love and support from everyone in the many communities that exist here; bike, music, recreation, complete strangers, and friends and family. The incredible support during this terrible time for me has been a gift I didn't know was possible.
I have never been faced with the irony that my body feels so bad but my heart feels so full of love. I love Bend and all of my supporters. Thank you everyone I am beyond humbled by your gifts and caring.
