THE STORY BEHIND THE MUSIC

This EP marks the beginning of a journey for me.  This recording will reflect 5 years of adversity, frustration, joy, pain, love, change, and excitement!  I cannot wait to share this musical journey with you.

The change began in 2012, when my voice was damaged during a performance.  After that performance — singing wasn't the same.  I could perform but the tone and higher notes I had made my niche, simply weren't there anymore.  This was devastating.  I interpreted this as a sign that my music career could no longer reach the level to which i aspired.  I feared I was looking at the end of a dream.

…But, I wasn’t ready to give up.

I began researching; looking for any information from people who had the same vocal injury.  I took formal voice lessons and made visits to an ENT specialist to find out if my voice was damaged beyond repair.

FINALLY — A glimmer of light shown through the clouds.  The doctor said my vocal chords were not a lost cause and with some time off I could make a full recovery.  Time off was not an option because music is my only means of survival.

Through more research, I became a student of the human voice, learning its anatomy, the physics behind vocalization, and all the while searching for a way to heal.

I lost confidence in my song writing ability.  Writing isn't just about what you have already accomplished. To call myself a song writer I needed to be constantly creating new material, always striving to better my craft.  This simply stopped happening.  The walls of self-doubt closed in on me like a trash compacter.  Any new idea I entertained sounded like garbage to me.  The downward spiral continued until attempting to write anything at all became a negative experience.

Years went by.  I made small improvements to my performance.  Little by little, my voice improved.  i looked at each performance as a chance to practice new techniques and find more effective vocal coordination.

Love came into my life as i met the woman of my dreams.  I now share a life with her and her two wonderful boys, Tristan and Sibayan.  To be loved like this, and love in return has cultivated in me a strength of character i did not know i was capable of, helping me overcome the trials and tribulations my path in life has presented.

I began teaching music part time in a place i now see as a haven for young people looking for guidance in the world of music-- Jim Chambers’ Music Box.

Being in an environment where people are constantly growing and changing has re-ignited the flame of creativity i once thought was dead.  Just like that, the music now pours out of me.  I am once again comforted by writing, using it as a tool for catharsis and pulling from my experiences to create music i hope everyone will enjoy.

Today, my voice is stronger than ever, my creativity is flourishing,  my knowledge of music theory and composition has increased.  Honestly, the work I am currently writing is best work I have ever done.

With your help, NOW is the time to make this EP.  The EP will be all original music with a goal to release in the fall of 2017.  In 2017, I am ready to take my music to a higher level.  I hope you will join me on this fantastic ride.

On a MORE personal note:  My fans are the most important part of this process.  Without your continued support at my shows…and now with recording this EP—None of this would exist without YOU!  YOU—THE FANS-- are the reason I continue to make recordings.
