Kelly H.S Dream Scholarship 2017

Donation protected
The Dream Act Club is a group founded by students from Kelly High School in 2005 who saw the need for more resources for undocumented students in their school. The  mission is to: Pass immigration reform,  inform the community about current immigration issues and fundraise for scholarships.

The Dream Act Club implements its mission by:

- Actively participating in immigration rallies, advocating for services for immigrants and supporting bills that support immigrant rights.

- Organizing multiple workshops about current immigration issues to make sure that community members are well informed about what is happening with immigration laws and other issues that might affect them.

- Fundraising for scholarships each school year. Last year Dream Act Club gave out three scholarships to graduating students from Kelly H.S. youth from our community that are low income and paying for a college education out of pocket is not a possibility.

Student Testimony:
My dad, as a hardworking man, came to the United States while we stayed in Mexico. Not seeing my dad everyday was extremely difficult for me, I remember crying every time that I thought about him. All my friends always asked me why he never came to school events, or why he wasn’t present on father’s day. I never knew what to answer because I didn’t even know the answer to that question. My father came to the United States when he was 18 to find a job and be able to provide for his family. He visited us once a year, I remember I was eager to see him, and give him a huge hug! The opportunity to move to the United States was laid in our hands. I felt blessed that I was going to take on a new road with my family. Not having my father when I was growing up had a strong impact in my life. Now having the support from him and the rest of my family has motivated me to continue my education. However, is not easy because my family is big. My household is composed of six hard working people that live off just $34, 000 a year. I am proud to say that I received the 2015-2016 Dream Act Scholarship and it has helped my family and I pay part of my college tuition. I am just one of many people like myself who depend on scholarships to fund their education, please consider making a donation and helping low income students like myself support their education through the Dream Act Scholarship.
