Kela Tennis Bubble Restoration

Donation protected
On June 1st at 12:30 am under the direction of the mayor who is under indictment by the state and due in court on 8/25, individuals without warrants or previous notification and under the full view of the police destroyed a multimillion dollar tennis facility owned and operated by Kela Simunyola. The 5 member city council is unanimous in their opposition to the mayor's actions. Mayor Thomas has a long standing feud with the former Mayor Ernie Davis who was in favor of the tennis center. While the tennis operator, Kela Simunyola has a 15 year contract/license agreement, Mayor Thomas said he was tearing it up. It seems that Mr. Simunyola's business, as well as the tennis youth and adult programs are caught in the middle of a political vendetta.

Mayor Thomas Arrested For Grand Larceny

For the last 4 years, Kela Tennis Center has been the bright spot on an otherwise forlorn public park at Memorial Field.  The City of Mount Vernon has struggled for years to renovate and reopen this park.  In the meantime, Kela Tennis has been a lifesaver for many families in the Westchester area, especially for hundreds of kids from Mount Vernon. Kela has invested millions of dollars and extraordinary amounts of time and effort in this community to give our children a place to be, a place to play and a place to learn -- sportsmanship, athletics, and discipline through the great life-long sport of tennis   Kela was recently celebrated by the USTA for the unique contributions that he has made within the community through tennis.  He has created an amazing environment for our kids to thrive and learn.

Simunyola Family of Westchester Wins USTA Eastern Tennis Award

We are all abhorred that this can happen in the United States. This mayor abused his power and destroyed the livelihood of a well respected and law abiding citizen. He also robbed many local underprivileged children of their beloved sport.

Now 10 weeks has passed, Kela and his family have been consumed by the length litigation process.
His business was destroyed. It's heartbreaking to see our wonderful facility to be in a such dilapidated state. Because it has been hanging for 10 weeks, the bubble is torn beyond repair.
