Keep my Neighbor Family Housed!

It takes a village.

Can you imagine being a mother with three children, and not knowing whether you will have a home to live next week?  Can you imagine this happening 5 days before Christmas? It's just wrong.

A family in my neighborhood is in that situation — and I'm unwilling to watch it happen! Five days before Christmas. It's just wrong.

Rebecca is a brave, hard-working woman. Her three boys depend on her for home and safety. And because of that, she doesn't give up. She also has an older daughter who is expecting a child. The family has suffered domestic violence and life in a shelter. In recent months, they've begun to live a "normal" life again. As normal as life can be for a family on the edge of poverty.

But finances are really tight. Rebecca works full time — but more 2/3 of her monthly income goes to rent, leleaving only a few hundred dollars for the rest of life. Even a small unexpected expense will throw that out of balance. It's a miracle and a testament to her resourcefulness that they manage to survive. But recently some unexpected medical expenses caused her to fall behind on rent. She's been trying to catch it up, but....

...her landlord has lost patience.
They took her to eviction court.

She has until Wednesday December 19th to pay in full, or face eviction.

I've spent hours talking and brainstorming with Rebecca. She is:
BRAVE.
RESOURCEFUL.
DOING EVERYTHING she knows how.

And she's been so receptive to ideas, advice, and support, and wonderful warm and grateful.

I've spent hours chatting with her, researching online, and calling social service agencies and nonprofits. So far, we've been unable to secure anything that will fill the gap.

This family needs a little bit of help get overcome the current obstacle.  I'm committed to making that happen for them. My own life has felt pretty blessed lately, and I have both time and financial resources to help. But can't do it alone.

To stop the eviction, Rebecca is short the funds needed THIS WEEK  to avoid eviction— This campaign ends to close that gap plus the $1250 due for January's rent, because once a eviction proceedings are initiated, there is little or no tolerance for late payments! My goal is to have that for her this week so that she can relax a little, enjoy Christmas for her boys, and begin the new year clean slate.

I have faith she can handle things going forward.

Help me create a Christmas miracle for a family who has struggled enough for one year.

**** I will personally match the first $500 contributed to this campaign! ***

Would anyone else like to pledge a larger matching donation to help push this forward?
