Keep the Laughter Alive at MPC!

The Monterey Peninsula Theatre Arts Department has been an active and vital part of the California Central Coast's performing arts history for the past 65 years. In 2013 the MPC administration made the decision to drastically cut funding and staff for the department. Over $70,000.00 was cut from the production budgets. The technical staff was cut by 50% when the Master Electrician and Theatre Manager were permanently laid off. One of two full time instructors was reassigned meaning that there were no longer classes offered in theatrical make-up and costuming and the department had to hire outside experts for costume design for productions. Part-time instruction budgets were slashed by over 60%. The effects were devastating.

Still, with all of this happening, the department has been able to carry on with a vastly reduced production schedule and significantly scaled down technical support. But the private funding that allowed us to carry on is now dangerously low. The lack of supplemental funds has endangered the department's ability to continue staging productions.   MPC Theatre Arts students, staff and community members are working diligently to ensure that curtain will continue to raise on the Morgan Stock Stage.  As opening night of Present Laughter approaches, these dedicated young artists need funds to get the show on stage. We are seeking $5,000.00 in funding for Costumes and Sets.

Donors of $100 or more, will receive one ticket to any performance, and their name listed in the program.
