It's an email that fills one with dread.
Sarah received one of these emails at around 8am Tuesday morning, and by 12:15pm her worst fears had been confirmed: layoffs, company-wide. Thirty-nine people let go in one shot, herself included.
Sarah is a single mom, and her son Max had recently moved in with her in her small 2 bedroom apartment in Astoria, NY. She is an amazing mother and an even more incredible person, having done as much as she could to help me in my time of need, when I was leaving my abusive ex-wife.
It's time for me to return the favor.
I want to raise some funds to help Sarah stay afloat until she finds a new job. Sarah is honestly one of my favorite people and she is sweet and kind and always willing to help, however she can. While I don't think it will take Sarah long to get back on her feet, debt from previous medical expenses and having to leave a previous hostile work environment looms over her and I absolutely don't want to see her and her son ending up with no where to live because she doesn't have enough money to cover rent and her other bills.
Sarah's financial situation was already precarious before being laid off; she's been balancing her debt for a long time, picking and choosing her way through paying it down and she has no savings, at the present moment, to fall back on.
Any little bit helps, but I've estimated that she'd need 5k for rent & utilities & food to get her through until she has a new job. Thank you so much for your help, everyone <3
