KEEP ROBERT MILLER ON THE BALLOT

A voice for the citizens of Crystal Lake should not be eliminated from our election ballot!

I’m Robert S Miller, I’ve been a citizen of Crystal Lake for more than 30 years.  My modest ranch home is on the west end of Crystal Lake, where I reside with my wife and 32yo. disabled step-daughter.

During the past 3 years I’ve has assisted friends and neighbors around Crystal Lake with flooding problems by being a voice for them at City Council meetings. Some of the things that I’ve accomplished as an advocate for the citizens of Crystal Lake are, reconstruction of the Honeysuckle Lane pipeline that drains Lippold Park and regular maintenance of the Lippold Park drain. I was instrumental in convincing the Crystal Lake Park District to install a drainage line along the back of the Lippold Park wetlands. Recently, I convinced the City to install a drainage ditch on Thornwood Lane to help alleviate constant flooding in that area, being caused by improper development and the lack of curbs and storm sewers.

On Wednesday November 21st, I made a decision to run for City Council in Crystal Lake. I felt that if I could make a difference when sitting in the gallery, I can have more impact as a Councilmember. Even though the deadline for filing petitions was on Monday November 26th, I carried on. Several friends and I gathered about 230 signatures on petitions on Saturday and Sunday in freezing rain and blizzard like conditions. I needed to get a receipt from the County offices on Monday November 26th to submit with my petitions, before the 5PM deadline.  When I arrived at the McHenry County building the morning of Monday, November 26th , I found the offices were closed due to the blizzard. I filed my petitions at City Hall before the deadline and returned the next morning with the receipt that was backdated by the County Clerk.

Unfortunately, 3 incumbent City Council members objected to my petitions based on that receipt. Now, I’m forced to appeal their objections in the Circuit Court in McHenry County.

Because of my wife Dianne’s unexpected and lengthy hospitalizations in June, July and September, our savings have been depleted.

I’m in need of funds to secure a competent lawyer who can represent me and help pay for filing in court and documents associated with my appeal.

I need your financial assistance to help fund this legal battle, or I’ll remain off the ballot in the April 2, 2019 election. My opponents did the same legal maneuver in their last election to eliminate competition. The citizens of Crystal Lake should have a choice in who represents them. If the incumbents succeed in keeping me off the ballot they win by default, just like they did in their last election.
