Keep our Rainbow Flag Flying

The Dorothea Dix Unitarian Universalist Community (DDUUC) in Bordentown, NJ proudly flies the rainbow flag in support of the LGBTQ community. Last week, our rainbow flag was stolen off our flagpole. The heartwarming sentiments of support and generous offers of help from the greater Bordentown community in response to this theft have been amazing.
DDUUC will fly the rainbow flag again, and is organizing a Flagraising Ceremony on Jan 15 where we hope the public will join us in celebration. We would like to reach out to the community to help us with funds to purchase a new American-made rainbow flag and anti-theft hardware for our flagpole. Funds raised during this campaign will be used for purchasing the flag, a halyard cover, a cleat cover, and a padlock. The hardware will be installed by volunteers. Any funds raised over and above what is needed to secure our flagpole will be used for our Social Justice work, which includes preparing meals for homeless families in Bordentown.
As Unitarian Universalists we affirm and promote seven Principles , the first of which states that we believe in the inherent worth and dignity of every person. Flying the rainbow flag is how we show support for just one of the marginalized communities in our society. It is a visual reminder to the members of our congregation of our commitment to inclusivity and an announcement to the community at large that all are welcome within our doors and that all identities will be honored.
