Save the Mared & Karen Podcast!

Hi!   I’m Kendall, creative director of Kromatic Media.  Over the past year, I worked with a team of amazing people to tell the true story of West Virginia’s most notorious murders – the disappearance and decapitation of Mared Malarik and Karen Farrell. We poured literally hundreds of hours of work into research, travels, outlines, interviews, editing, original songwriting, recording and voice work that has since won regional acclaim. The show has now been incorporated into college curriculum on forensics, podcasting and true crime.

With its final episode, the show has now extended to over 6 hours of audio, and we can no longer afford the SoundCloud account we need out-of-pocket to preserve it for other listeners there and on iTunes. It’s time to ask for help.

Mared & Karen: The WVU Coed Murders has been a passion project. The show has been free, and most importantly, free from advertising. That’s because I know how much hearing advertisements for some random products and services can kill the vibe for a narrative show like this, take you out of the story, and just feel gross for everyone involved. We covered all the costs associated with Mared & Karen out-of-pocket. No one was paid anything.

So for everyone who donates just $5 to Kromatic Media to preserve the show, we’ll be giving you an entirely new true crime murder mystery podcast.

The new show will not be another cold case. This is another baffling tale that is still unfolding. Which is to say that we personally attended the trial less than a month ago. There has been no coverage of this case outside of AP-style news articles, and the person who wrote almost all of those is now working with us to tell the story in the style you’ve come to appreciate through Kromatic Media.

With your funds, we hope to preserve the history of Mared & Karen and be able to pay our house musicians and Geoff Fuller a little money for their volunteer work.  Thanks so much for your support!
