HELP US KEEP LIFELINES ALIVE!
I AM YOU is a non-profit working in Ritsona Refugee Camp in Greece. Our mission is to provide humanity in displacement, to preserve dignity and protect the individual rights of the most vulnerable men, women and children.
We aim to resolve real time needs in the field, and one of the most important ways we do this is through our Lifelines program. We provide non-emergency medical transportation and translation services to camp residents, ensuring that they have access to the most vital service - healthcare.
The Lifelines team is made up of drivers, cultural mediators and translators. Together, they transport patients to medical appointments and guide them through the often confusing bureaucracy of the Greek healthcare system. Ritsona camp is a 2 hour walk from the nearest hospital, with no public transport links. It's hard enough getting to an appointment when you're sick - add a language barrier and an unfamiliar way of doing things and a difficult situation becomes nearly impossible. By removing those obstacles, we can try to ensure camp residents get the care they need and deserve.
Unfortunately, all this costs money, and as the refugee crisis vanishes from the headlines, it is becoming harder and harder for us to raise the funds we need. Right now, the Lifelines program is in danger, and we need your help to keep it going!
It costs us just over €2500 a month ($3000) to run a one-car team, rising to around €4300 ($5300) with a second car. That money is spent on car rental, petrol, supplies and occasionally medicine, as well as on drivers and cultural mediators. At the moment, it's money that we simply don't have.
Our aim here is to raise enough money to keep Lifelines going for a month. At the least, it will be a month more of providing an invaluable service to those that need it most. At the most, it will buy us the time we need to find a long-term way of keeping the program alive.
