Dear Friends of Calvary Christian School:

Calvary Christian School in San Lorenzo, CA, formerly Calvary Lutheran School, has been providing an excellent Christian and academic education to elementary school students (preschool through 8th grade) in the East Bay since 1952 and currently serves 107 students and their families.

Teachers and parents of students at Calvary Christian School were informed on Sunday, March 5 of a school closure by the end of the 2016-2017 school year unless enrollment and/or funding improves for 2017-2018. On Sunday, March 12, Calvary Lutheran Church delayed a vote about closing the school until Sunday, March 26, providing time to improve future enrollment and raise funds.

We are reaching out to anyone who has ever benefited from a wonderful and impactful education to help us keep our school open by making a financial contribution through this site or directly to the school. We also have a passionate and dedicated team of parents working hard to welcome new families into our amazing school.

Many lives would be affected by closing our school. Calvary Christian School is a family comprised of students, teachers, staff and parents who would like to keep our community alive and growing. We want to continue sharing the love of Jesus with students as we provide top-quality education.

We plan to use donated funds from this website to allow Calvary Christian School to stay open for the 2017-2018 school year and beyond. If the church votes on March 26 to close the school, donated funds will be used to help teachers in transition, with a small portion reserved to help throw a closing party for students. If you wish to have your donation refunded in the event of the school's closure this year, we can return 92.1% of your donation. The remainder is retained by this website. Donations made via this website are not tax deductible. If you instead wish to make a tax-deductible donation directly to the school, you may write a check to Calvary Christian School and deliver or mail it to 17200 Via Magdalena, San Lorenzo, CA 94580.

Thank you for taking the time to read, share and contribute to help us continue the Lord's work being done in the lives of students, their families and beyond! We welcome everyone interested in learning more about our school to visit us at http://calvaryslz.org
and in person.

Sincerely,

Your Calvary Christian School family

I was a teacher at Calvary following my graduation from Concordia Teachers College in 1968. We were blessed to be a part of the Calvary family from that first year until the summer of 1985. Our daughters attended from their preschool years until our move. We have so many happy memories of their school experiences. As a teacher, I remember the special field trips we took from places like the Exploratorium in SF to the converted Navy ship refurbished to be used in the South Bay to research the types of life and materials on the bay bottom and from the surrounding ocean. We got to see all sorts of "critters" via magnification on large screens. The students learned a lot, and the teacher did too!! We did a puppet show in the classroom. We raised chickens in an incubator and through their "peeper" stage. One year we rewrote the Christmas Carol to suit our class and performed the play for our proud families. I was able to present talks during chapel from time to time. Through the year both students and their teacher learned about all sorts of good things! I played Horse on the basketball courts with students at recess, coached our Calvary upperclass students in football, softball, and basketball. I remember playing basketball one on one with Paul Schultz after school. We both liked that time together. All in all, my time as a teacher at Calvary gave me lots of good memories, a ton of growth to bring to my new students in Visalia, and interaction with many, many learners over the years.
