Keene Sno-Riders Grooming Fund

Donation protected
My name is Josh Brooks and I am the Trailmaster for the Keene Sno-Riders.

The Keene Sno-Riders  are  a non-profit  club who build and maintain nearly 60 miles of trails in and around Keene, including; Swanzey, Surry, Gilsum and Sullivan. Our activities include annual clearing of brush, repair of trail beds, building or replacement of bridges, placement of trail signage and working with landowners to secure permission to cross their property or to reroute trails.  In the winter we groom the trails for snowmobilers and for the convenience of hikers, bikers, (yes bikers), dog walkers, cross-country skiers and many other users.

Our trail system, which includes the Cheshire Rail Trail, is very heavily used in Keene and the surrounding communities as it is the main corridor from southern NH to Westmoreland, Walpole and other points north.  As such, it is a vital link in the state trail network.

The Keene Sno-Riders are a non-profit, volunteer organization.  A small group of dedicated people spend hundreds of hours to maintain the trail system for the benefit of the community.  These club members receive no compensation for any of the labor they donate.  In fact, our primary sources of income are club memberships and reimbursement from the state of NH for grooming of the trails.  Since our budget is small, these sources of income are normally sufficient for us to meet the needs of our trail system.  Due to the lack of snow last year we were unable to do any grooming.   Unfortunately, we still needed to maintain our equipment, pay for bridge and trail repairs and pay for insurance.  Without the funding we normally receive from grooming, we need an alternative source of income to meet our expenses for the coming year.  We are therefore asking the users of the trail system, and other interested parties, for donations so that we may continue to maintain the trail system for the community.

We were faced with a major expense as our main groomer, the BR-180 as shown in the picture, needed a radiator and was not in service. This is a very specialized piece of equipment and as you can image, very expensive to repair. Our goal was to raise enough funds to buy and install the radiator it needed to get this vital machine back to grooming the rail bed.   The club asked for donations in this manner is a last resort for us but unfortunately it had become necessary.

***Update***
Thanks everyones help we were able to generate enough funds to get the BR-180 back up and  operating just in time for the first major storm! This system worked well for us so we decided to keep it as a convienient avenue for people to contribute to our club.

All donations are tax deductible, they will only be used to pay for expenses directly related to trail system and groomer maintenance. All contributions of any size are greatly appreciated.

Receipts are available upon request.

Thank you for your support and THINK SNOW!
