"Yoga is not a religion. Yoga is a science, a science of well-being, science of youthfulness, science of integrating body, mind and soul."

Hello all,
Keelie here!

I am a passionate fireball. The two things that demand my creative focus are YOGA and ART.( Deep down , I know that I have something to offer the world through these two avenues. And now, in 2016, I have finally arrived to the place in my personal development where I'm eager to start talking about it!
I found meditation through listening to George Harrison, being exposed to his travels and teachings through music during my late teens. I began meditating and reading about meditation on my own through my highschool years and into college. It wasn't until 2009 that I attended my first yoga class, at Dahn Yoga in Houston, Texas. The initial years of my yoga practice were very personal; I changed my perspective on my relationship to food, my self-image, and most importantly my self-worth. Then I went through an intense research period through graduate school, studying zen meditation, community art, identity, and pyschotherapy. When the idea of teaching yoga fell into my lap in 2013, I began an entirely new and challenging journey with wide eyes and a soft voice. Even though I had taught many classes to both children and adults, teaching yoga was a transformative experience for me. Up until 2013, my meditation and yoga was its' own private and spiritual manifestation that I shared only with other practicioners. Now, I was in the front of the class?! Say whhhhat?!

The process of cultivating a voice through my yoga practice has been an inspirational ride. I have had many moments of fear and doubt, where I wonder if I even have anything of value to offer, but underneath it all... I can uncover that tiny passionate fireball that has always been bouncing around inside of me. My soft voice has provided a fabulous opportunity to focus on listening and observing.
I observe the subtle transformations happening to the students who attend my classes--through bodies, minds, hearts and relationships. I witness people being about to touch their toes for the first time. I notice when anxiety or fear is written on someone's face. I watch as breath patterns grow slower and deeper. I have seen compassionate awareness towards the self and others grow from the inside out.

And now, may my voice grow dynamically and purposefully!! My work comes from a truly humble place in my heart. I want to grow my knowledge about meditation, breath awareness, phsyical asanas, and myself so that I can continue to share with even more depth. I dream of being an inspirtation for young girls and women. And I know that with diligence, patience, and practice, all is coming.

In February of 2016, I was accepted into the Insight Yoga Institute and will be training intermittently over the next 2-3 years. All money collected through gofundme will be used to pay for the trainings, books, and traveling that I must complete in order to receive the following: IYI Certification, IYI Endorsement and Yoga Alliance 500-hour Teacher Training. I will be studying with three different teachers (Sarah Powers Paul Grilley , and Maty Ezraty), have a mentor for 2+ years, attend a psycho-social inquiry retreat, and five 5-day silent retreats.
Check out Insight Yoga Institute to get more details about the program.

It's hard to put into words how much this opportunity means to me. I have been patiently searching for the path to extending my training in a meaningful way and am honored to be acccepted into such a prestigious institute. I am so thankful to be able to offer my own artwork, art classes, yoga classes (and maybe even a yoga dvd) for any donations received. This is all about reciprocity, my friends. Please start the process of giving and receiving with me. I love you. I love you. I love you!
Blessings and balance,
-keelz
