16 years ago, on April 14, 2003, I went to the doctor's office on my baby's due date and was told she had no heartbeat. That day changed our lives forever. I am a NICU RN and delivered at the hospital I work at. We were blessed to receive the best care and support anyone could during such a difficult and sad delivery. We were able to spend as long as we wanted with her. Some family and friends were able to see her too. After a few hours though, time is not gracious on stillborn babies and her color started to change. We chose to give her to her nurses at that point and that was the last time we saw her. We did not want to have memories of her that way. To this day we wish we could have had more time to spend with her.
In memory of Kayla Marie, we would like to raise enough money to donate one Caring Cradle to Mercy Medical Center so that other parents in our situation will be able to spend more time with their babies during this difficult time.
The Caring Cradle is a device that allows a dignified means for parents and families to spend more time with a baby who has passed.
This support tool is for any family whose baby has died. In the past families were limited to morgue visits, packing an infant in ice, turning the temperature down in rooms and other antiquated means born out of necessity. A Caring Cradle provides families with a tool to allow an appropriate atmosphere to say goodbye to their baby. It helps keep the baby cool, which in turn slows down the natural changes to the body in death. This will help parents to be able to spend many more hours with their baby, They will be able to take more photos, hold, bathe and dress their babies. Creating memories that they will have forever.
