Charismatic, Loving, Sweet, Kind, Witty and the endless list of positive adjectives can go on to describe an irreplaceable young woman named Kayla Leon.
In the early evening hours on Monday, January 23, 2017, the Leon family received the worst news any parent would dread to hear. Kayla, who is 14 years of age, was exiting a New York City bus exactly 30 feet away from her doorstep. A reckless and negligent driver was speeding on Kayla’s residential block when he hit her head on doing more than the legal driving limit of 25 mph. Kayla was tossed mid-air at an alarming height of 9 feet. She landed on the car’s windshield and broke it upon impact. Due to the severity of the impact, Kayla is now fighting for her life.
She sustained Severe Traumatic Brain Injuries. She suffered one broken leg and one fractured leg. Due to the severity of the intracranial hemorrhaging Kayla suffered she required the following extensive surgeries:
Four brain surgeries
Tracheostomy
Surgical repair of a broken tibia and fibula
Three stomach surgeries which were
Gastrostomy aka Peg feeding tube
Surgical storage of Kayla’s Skull for “safe-keeping”
Surgical removal of Kayla’s skull for placement back in her head
Kayla’s dreams and aspirations were cut short on that dreary Monday evening. Kayla has always aspired to become a Neurosurgeon since she was 3 years of age. Kayla is a straight A honor roll student and were deeply afraid her dreams may not become a reality.
HOW THE MONEY WILL BE USED:
Funds raised in this campaign will go directly to provide financial assistance for Kayla’s long term rehabilitative care. The funds will also provide Kayla’s mother (Myrtho) the financial support needed to take care of her daughter full-time. Myrtho has not left her daughter’s side since Monday, January 23, 2017. We’re humbly asking for your donation which would provide the much needed financial support for Kayla’s long recovery.
