Randy and I have set up this this gofundme page to help Randy's mother, Kay, and his father, Bill, with the financial burden that cancer brings. Kay was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma cancer in February, and her medical bills are stacking up. We are hoping to raise $10,000, enough to cover Kay's out-of-pocket medical expenses for 2017.
About Kay and Bill
Kay and Bill have been in a loving marriage for 45 years and have lived in Blackfoot, Idaho since they wed. Kay and Bill were blessed with 3 children: Randy, Michelle, and Bonnie. Tragically, Bonnie passed away in 1993. Kay was successful as a homemaker, mother, and wife. Bill was enlisted in the Navy and served in Vietnam. Working hard his whole life, he retired from the INL after 25 years. Bill was running a successful Backhoe business up until Kay fell ill, and has since spent all of his time caring for her.
Kay's Battle with Cancer
In February 2017, Kay fell and suffered a spinal fracture. While being treated, the doctor's discovered she had a tumor on her spine, which turned out to be aggressive Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. After a surgery to repair her spine, Kay was started on chemotherapy. She is now on her third type of chemotherapy, and we are finally seeing signs of improvement, but there is still a long road to travel to her recovery.
Why We are Raising Money
Kay's battle with cancer has come with great financial costs. Bill has been unable to go back to work at his business as he has been a full-time caregiver for Kay. Although Kay has insurance, the out-of-pocket maximum, which she met in 2017, was $10,000. This is in addition to the costs of travelling between hospitals, medication, and living expenses that have added up. With the new year, Kay's deductible will be reset, and we are anticipating another $10,000 in medical expenses next year. We are hoping to raise enough to at least cover this year's out-of-pocket medical expenses.
