Friends and family who are aware of my situation have continuously asked how they can help.  Please feel free to use this method as an option for providing support.

Here's my story: In November 2016 I was diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma, a cancerous tumor on my left nostril.  Yes, it is a form of skin cancer and it's not terminal.  However, the surgeries required will remove most of the left side of my nose

In order to cure me the procedures are specialized and approximately 10 trips to Edmonton, AB over  3 months will be mandatory, commencing mid March.  Saskhealth covers the surgeries but not expenses.  Expenses include, gas, food, hotel, and a required travel parnter for each trip. One trip was made to the two specialists just before Christmas.

The clinical terms for these surgeries are Mohs (removal of tumor), paramedian forehead flap & conchal cartilage graft(reconstruction), and flap divde.  Once these surgeries ar completed 6 weeks of dermabrasion and steriod injections will be required to assist with deminishing the facial scars.
Three dates have been put into place so far: February 15 - physical with GP in Saskatoon; March 14 - Edmonton, template scan (mold of nose) and preclinical admission session at Grey Nun's Hospital; April 7 - Reconstructive surgery.  The date for removal will be two days before reconstruction, just waiting on confirmation.

This is definately a challenging part of my journey, but with the support with friends and family I will come out stronger.  Those who know me, know that the shining star in my life is my baby boy, Seamus, and he inspires me to keep going.  Since my diagnosis I've had a roller coaster of feelings and even on the days when I think I can't keep going, my son will randomly say "You're the best, sweetest mommy in the whole world".  These words touch my heart and are a sign of my higher power telling me I'm worth fighting for.

I would like to thank everyone in advance for any support you are able to give during this difficult time in my life and the life of those close to me. Much love!

Katrina

"Pain is temporary, it may last a minute, a day, a week or even a year but it will eventually subside and something else will take its place. However, if I quit that will last forever."

One week from today I will be heading to Edmonton to commence the recovery process on this part of my journey. I would be lying if I said that I've glided through each day. A few emotional ups and downs but that's okay, my faith and all the love and support from all my friends and family and my God will carry me through the days to come. Much love and God bless.

Steak night this Thursday, I would love to see all of you!

Hi all - On Monday, March 13 I take the second of 10 trips to Edmonton for my preadmission clinic at the Grey Nun's Hospital and an appointment at the Miscerordia Hospital to have a template of my nose made to ensure these Dr's put things back exactly as they were. It must be all the healing thoughts and wishes of strength which is helping me to get through the days. I will give a shout out to my close work colleagues Joshua Cook and Alana Marjoram who have made me laugh, heard me cry, cried with me and heard me tell the story over and over again when others come by to show their support. This group at Cameco is truly amazing. Please note, some other dear friends and colleagues at Cameco are organizing a steak night for me on Thursday, March 30 at Sports on Tap. Further details to follow. God bless and much love!
