Help Katie's Road to Recovery

Donation protected
Katie Wootan has been in and out of the hospital since November of 2016.  In her words she has been “reliving her own version of Groundhog Day”. As of right now Katie is undiagnosed and at home working towards recovery. She was recently at UCSF Medical Center at Mission Bay and Sutter Hospital.

She has been through a whirlwind of blood tests, CAT scans, colonoscopies, drain procedures, x-rays and many painful sleepless nights and so far one torturous surgery.

After her surgery in November 2016, doctors found two orange sized abscess sacs. One of those sacs had a benign tumor attached to it and Katie had a very difficult time with pain during her recovery. Once that was under control she seemed to recover quickly and was released from the hospital about week later.

Shortly after she was released, she was back in the hospital where they found more abscesses. During this stay doctors diagnosed Katie with diverticulitis. We now know that this was misdiagnosed! Katie’s abscesses were drained and she returned home right before Christmas and rang in the New Year with the hopes of a happy and healthy year ahead.

As of April 2017, Katie has been in the hospital and her medical bills are increasing daily. She is unsure at this time if she will be covered for UCSF and she has not been able to work during this time.  The diagnosis is still unclear.

She will need 1 more weeks of TPN and then another CAT scan. TPN is knows as total prenatal nutrition, it’s basically a bag of liquid sugar/vitamins/fat and proteins that she gets injected every 12 hours. This is how Katie gets her daily food intake.  We are hoping this next scheduled CAT scan will provide answers.

Katie has been extremely patient and is very appreciative and thankful for her friends and family who have been there for her during this time. Katie recently stated in a Facebook post, "I have never been more overwhelmed in my life with how amazing and loving the people in my life are. You guys have kept me positive, encouraged me to be strong and brought me to blubbering tears with the amount of support, kind words and gestures."

Katie is one of the most generous, giving and loving human beings I have personally encountered. Let’s show her how much we love her by helping support her as her road to recovery continues. Thank you for your donation.
