Katie's Heart

Katie's health problems started in March when she thought she had the flu. She went to her doctor and was prescribed medication. In April, she started to have a hard time breathing and was getting hardening in her stomach. One day at work she could hardly function so her husband had to pick her up and take her home. A few days later she couldn't breath so she went to the ER. She was in the ICU for 4 days. Once the doctors thought she was getting better, she was moved to a hospital in her network. When she got to the hospital that was in her network, she crashed and coded. Her heart stopped. It turned out that her heart valves were open and her lungs were flooding. Thankfully they were able to bring her back.  She is currently on multiple medications, and some have caused more health issues. Due to the steroids and thyroid medications, she now has diabetes. They kept her IV in too long and she ended up getting a blood infection. They are trying to get her thyroid under control before she has open heart surgery to repair her heart valves. If her thyroid doesn't get better, she will need to have surgery to remove it before her heart surgery. Katie is unable to work and has medical bills which is why a GoFundMe has been started. She has the support of her husband and two children, but her not being able to work is causing more of a strain on their family.
