Katie’s Hope Journey to End Her M.S.
For those of you who don’t know our sister Katie, we’d like to share some information with you in hopes that you might want to join us in supporting her fight.
Katie is a 32-year-old wife, mother, daughter, aunt, and friend to many. Katie and her husband Tony have been married for thirteen years and have 7 children between them. They currently depend on Katie's income since recently starting their new family business. On February 20th, 2010 Katie was diagnosed with Relapsing Remitting Multiple Sclerosis (RRMS) and her world turned upside down.
Living with Multiple Sclerosis for the nearly 9 years and having failed five medications, Katie is running out of time and options. It is becoming increasingly more difficult for her to have the quality of life she and her family deserve. Over the past few years her Multiple Sclerosis has progressed in such a way that it causes her to suffer from extreme fatigue, numbness, tingling, heat intolerance, cognitive issues, memory loss, bladder issues, vision problems, vertigo, "MS hug", severe ice pick headaches, and tremors which makes her day to day life difficult. All MS medications that are currently available will only slow down disease progression up to 30%.
However, there is a treatment called HSCT (Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant) which has been proven to STOP disease progression in people with RRMS.
HSCT is the transplantation of Multipotent Hematopoietic stem cells, which comes from her own marrow. This is a very invasive treatment that also involves a regiment of high potent chemotherapy. This option is not available to everyone with Multiple Sclerosis and we are so excited and blessed that Katie has been approved to receive this life-changing treatment at Northwestern Medicine University Hospital in Chicago!
This has not been an easy decision for Katie and our family, but after much prayer, we know that our HOPE and trust in Christ will get us through.
We are seeking YOUR SUPPORT as this will be a major financial undertaking for Katie and her family. We are still waiting to hear back from insurance with the hope that they will be of assistance in this process.
