As you may have heard, our dear friend Katie Munro, has been diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Katie has already battled cancer twice and is determined to get back on her feet and out of the hospital.
Cancer is an unfortunate battle many Munro family members have had to face. Katie’s younger sister Alex, who lives in Texas, is going through her own battle as well.
This amazing family has been through so much but their love, support and determination gets them through day by day.
We have developed this campaign page to share updates on her progress. In addition, given the unfortunate timing of this diagnosis – right as Katie was about to face another unknown of leaving WCC to pursue her dream of teaching through TDSB - she is left with no medical coverage.
Due to her current condition, Katie is not able to undergo Chemotherapy. However, she is currently on a treatment new to Canada but it is not covered by OHIP and she currently has no medical coverage.
While the family is clear that no help is necessary, this is primarily a means to get some updates, share your concerns and compassion for our friend ,and contribute to her well-being – medically and emotionally. We have set a goal for $8,000 which is the cost for one month of this new treatment.
