Katie Calaway Peralta Funeral Fund

Donation protected
On Thursday, December 29, we lost a sister, daughter, friend, cousin, when Katherine “Katie” Calaway Peralta was killed in a senseless act of domestic violence.  Katie had tried for years to strengthen her marriage through counseling and other means but had recently concluded that divorce was necessary.  After finding out she planned to file for divorce, Katie was confronted by her husband, Richard, in the parking lot of ARUP at the University of Utah Research Park where she worked.  Richard shot Katie several times before turning the gun on himself. Those closest to Katie believe the dispute arose because she had informed Richard that she would be proceeding with a divorce in January. Katie will be remembered as a kindhearted and gentle person.  Katie was also a mother to 15 month old Jake.  She was deeply devoted to her young son and was seeking to give him a wonderful future. Katie’s bravery and conviction to provide the best situation for her child was always evident.  She recently confided to her family that she was leaving the marriage to protect herself and her son.  The family greatly appreciates the outpouring of support and prayers from friends, family and the community during this tragic time. Usually this is a time of year when most people celebrate being with family and loved ones.  Please consider donating to ease the burden of funeral expenses from this sudden loss.  Any remaining money will be set aside for Katie’s son Jake.
