Over the past several months Kate has not been feeling quite like herself and has been working to figure out why. During the summer of 2016 she saw several doctors to figure out why her lower abdomen and stomach have been giving her problems. She had occasions when she was unable to keep food down and pain while sleeping to name a few symptoms. After many tests it was determined that there was a tumor attached to the outside of her colon and needed to be removed. On 9/28/16 Kate was admitted to the hospital to have what they thought was a tumor and part of her colon removed. However, the doctors were unable to remove anything as the cancer had spread throughout the abdomen. After additional tests and procedures, it has been determined that Kate has Stage 4 Stomach Cancer. It is a very rare form of stomach cancer called Signet Ring Cell Adenocarcinoma which has spread to her peritoneum lining.

As you can imagine this has been a very emotional few weeks for Kate and her family. With that being said, Kate is a fighter. She is honest, she is real, she is a yogi, she is respectful, she is a person who cares and does SO much for others and she is an inspiringly devoted mom to Finn and Ike. She will not quit!

What is happening now?
The next week will be busy for Kate as the next step for treatment will be determined. She will be seeing Dr. Paul Fanta with the USCD Moores Cancer Center on Wednesday 10/19/16. He is an oncologist specializing in GI Cancers. He has a team of DR.’s and surgeons that will determine the next step of treatment. She is also participating in holistic healing and will continue throughout treatment. We have also researched clinical trials and that will be considered when meeting with the oncologist next week.

What can you do?
Kate and her family’s lives have dramatically changed. They do need help with meals, shopping, and fundraising. We have set up this gofundme page to raise funds to support Kate's medical expenses and to help ensure the best care for our dear friend. In addition, funds are desired to help with the regular day-to-day chores for Kate's family so that the McAdams can focus on Kate's treatment and a healthy recovery.

We also have a sign up genius page that you can sign up for a specific task as requested by the family. We will send out the link as soon as we have it all set up.

Kate and her family are overwhelmed by the love and support from their community. The love people have shown in just a few weeks has been astounding and she is inspired and strengthened by all the kind words and assistance. Please respect this time and do not overwhelm Kate or her family with texts and emails. Kate and her family will post regular updates on the Lovek8 facebook page as to what is happening with treatments and Dr. appointments. We know everyone wants to know how she is and to be kept current. If you would like to offer words of encouragement, support, and love please use the email [email redacted] or the facebook page Lovek8. Kate and her family will check it regularly and make posts.

Thank you and PLEASE SPREAD THE LOVE!
