Hello All,

I personally wanted to provide everyone an update & to express our gratitude.

Yesterday we took a tremendous leap forward. We signed documents and got the keys for a rental lease agreement in Santa Monica. The reason we choose the place is because It’s walking distance to Sadie’s current school. This home will allow her to proceed with her life with minimal interruption. That fact that she can stay in school with her teachers and friends is priceless. She loves her teacher Ms Bosley and will have lunch with Chloe and Quai every single day for another year! How lucky is that? Honestly, we are so blessed to have found this place. To have meet a compassionate man who accepted us and took a reduction off the rental price for us to keep her in school is god sent.

We are moving on. Our bedding and furniture arrive on Saturday and the plan is to spend the night there on Sunday. This step will allow us to propel our lives in the right direction. We WILL have a home for the holidays!

Yesterday, I did make it to the property too. The neighborhood plus are residence is completely devastated. I drove up and walked around by myself without uttering a word. I was completely numb to what I was seeing. It’s so crazy to see the house you’ve called home as well as all the contents of your entire life reduced to debris. There appears to be nothing recoverable. Besides the cars and laundry machine, the only thing recognizable is Sadie’s bathtub. It’s just a pile of rubbish and nails.

I am so happy to say, I am no longer sad. I am in the recovery phase now. I am very far from that deep dark hole I had buried myself in to. Miraculously, it was you who swept me up and carried me to safety. Honestly, it was each and everyone one of you. Our family, friends, co-workers, friends of friends and strangers, you pulled me from those trenches. I am indebted to you. This Thanksgiving, I am more thankful that ever. I see life from a different perspective. I was lost without a meaning to continue to live for a moment there. Yes, I was that far gone. You saved me.

Today even more progress has been made. We took advantage of many Black Friday sales including Walmart, Target, Macy’s and Zara to get our lives back on track. It is time. The time is now to mend and rebuild. My attitude is #FUCKFIRES. You will not defeat me, we will replenish! WE WILL PREVAIL!

Thank you one again, with all of my heart. I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!!

*Update 11/16/18*

Letter from George Karthan:

Thank you with all of my heart. We are very fortunate to have such wonderful people in our lives. The outpouring of love and support has been sincerely appreciated. We really can’t say thank you enough.

This tragedy has been incredibly difficult. The initial shock was more painful than you can ever imagine. It had me in the lowest of lows. I pray that insurance works as most people would hope, but we just don’t know at the moment. We will recover and one day everything will be brand new, but it’s a very long road ahead of us.

On Monday, I felt less than 1%. Today I am up to 3-5% so I am already doing 5x better.

The reality is, our family literally drove away with 2 days of clothing and that is all. I’ve been stripped down to 2 sweatpants, 3 shirts, 1 pair of socks, 2 pairs of underwear, 1 pair of flip flop and sneakers. Thankfully, a co-worker did supply me a bag full of socks today. Julian now has more clothes than he had before (yes, second child syndrome is a thing) and Sadie has been showered with clothes and toys.

My goal is to rent a place by early December so our family can have a Christmas. Those that know me well, know my love for the season. Because of you, yes YOU, we will have stockings, lights, decorations and a tree. If your parents were like mine, they told you to care of those who need help and have nothing over the holidays. I never fully understood that till now. Today I have none of the items listed above. But I promise each of you, the Karthan’s will decorate this year!

Again, thank you for lending your support. Our sincerest appreciation & gratitude. We are grateful to everyone.

George, Amy, Sadie & Julian
