Karmalooms was born by bringing together Urmi-Handlooms, a company that trains and employs uneducated, illiterate women, and Get Well Soon Nepal, a non-profit group using art therapy for children marginalized by the earthquake that devastated the country.
All of our products are handled with the utmost care and attention. From the goat to the loom, from the factory to your front door. We take pride in our top quality 100 percent authentic pashmina products made from the finest cashmere wool on earth. Each shawl is hand brushed, labeled and packaged individually to ensure quality control.
The Karmalooms mission is to put money and education into Nepal, enabling more women to work, capitalizing on something unique from the region and reinvesting in the future of children. This authentic pashmina that Urmi-Handlooms produces is made from the softest hair on the belly and mustache of goats from Changthang plateau in the Kashmir region of Nepal. Through exporting these specialized products, bringing them to the U.S. market, and providing high quality pashmina at an affordable price, we are giving living wages to women who otherwise wouldn't have income and donating a portion of those profits to Get Well Soon Nepal.
In understanding the process of how a pashmina scarf is made, it’s clear it isn’t just within the factory, it’s the confidence and faith that the women are given, it’s the spirit of the entrepreneur, it’s the community coming together and it’s the recognition of quality and hard work that has crafted the final product. A mother’s hard work puts children in school, art keeps children engaged and learning.
If you are interested in this cause and/or are a pashmina enthusiast like us, we are looking for donations to kick start this ball of yarn. We need money to pay for our first shipment, web presence and tax filings, 20% of the fundraising proceeds will go to Get Well Soon Nepal, and for each pashmina sold, an additional $2 will be donated.

- $2,000 - Get Well Soon Project Donation (Women & Childrens) Art Therapy and Education)**
Our goal is to reach 20,000 childen affected by the quake, supplying art supplies and education furthuring this movement.
