Karin’s Heart Surgery

Karin is a loving wife of Adam, married 19 years and mother of two boys, Alex age, 14 and Ezra, age 2.  Three weeks ago while at home, Karin had sudden shortness of breath and chest pains.  After rushing to a close ER, running test after test, Karin was found to have a large congenital atrial septal defect, a hole between 2 chambers of her heart.  She was transferred to an excellent cardiac hospital in the county for heart surgery and after more testing there, the surgery could not be done.  The repair could actually cause cardiac/pulmonary arrest due to severe pulmonary hypertension.  After consulting with her doctors, she is now under the care of a congenital heart failure team close to home, having to now go on a very specific pulmonary hypertension medicine, the doctors feel that within a few months of being on these new meds, the pressure in her pulmonary arteries will be lowered enough so that she could survive the surgery to close the hole in her heart.  Until then, Karin will be on oxygen 24/7.  Thanks to all you loving friends, the family was able to purchase a very good portable oxygenator, which will allow Karin to leave the home.  With guidance from a medical/spiritual team in Wallkill, New York, a highly regarded heart surgeon at University of Chicago Medical will be ready to perform the surgery, bloodless.  
But the closing of the hole in the heart will only be a temporary fix, as the heart and lungs have been severely damaged.   Other heart and lung surgeries are more than likely in the future, but the  family is very thankful that a plan at least is in place, as they begin this long road.  They appreciate all your support and thank you especially for the prayers that you have made and continue to make in their behalf.
