Last spring my mother, Karina Serna, was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer, affecting her bones, lungs, liver, and elsewhere.
As some may know, this is a reaccurance from the fight my mother was able to temporarily beat five years ago. We were very fortunate to feel the love and support of our small community back then with home cooked meals brought to our door and some donations given through our local bank. My mother was able to continue to work through her first diagnosis which helped carry us through as well, but unfortunately my mother was recently let go from her job before being re-diagnosed this time, and is not in condition to find new work.
With this immense loss of income to our family, and the increased aggressiveness of my mother's disease this time around, we are seeking the kindness of others to help us get through this difficult time. It is very uncomfortable for my family to ask for donations from others, but we are simply unable to afford the care my mother needs to win this fight against cancer once and for all.
All funds will go directly to medical needs, including helping towards meeting our $3,000 insunce deductible, travel expenses in order to obtain treatment as it is not available on the small island where we live, as well as supplements and other alternative methods or trials that are not covered by insurance, yet are imperative to mantaining control over my mothers' condition. The fundraiser goal is set with long-term, extended treatment in mind, but any amount would be incredibly helpful.
