Karibu Thrift Store Move
Donation protected
For 23 months Karibu Thrift Store has operated out of 3537 B St Clair Ave East in Scarborough. Over that time, we have provided employment to 8 individuals, paid work experience opportunities to an additional 6 people and we have provided ongoing volunteer opportunities to 6 young people with autism. This was done with support from the community in the form of tangible donations and financial support exclusively from its owner.
As any one who has started a business will tell you, it takes times for the business to become self sustaining. We are no different. In 2 years, thanks to the generous support from you the community, our friends and supporters , we have developed a vast inventory of quality merchandise. The process of steam cleaning clothing, sorting, grading, cleaning, pricing and displaying your donations has provided meaningful work and ongoing opportunities for my employees and volunteers .
In order to supplement in store revenues we have an active Facebook page where new products are listed, EBay, Twitter, Instagram, a newly opened Etsy store and a static website.
Our location in South Scarborough has served us as much as it could. The time has come to move. Since we receive no grants or subsidies from the government, it is up to me, the owner, to finance the move. My family and I believe in Karibu Thrift Store and have invested to keep it going to this point. My dream is that the community also belives in the mission and will invest in its future by supporting its move to a larger location.
The goal of $30000 will be used to secure a new lease, buy equipment and finance the logistics of moving.
Our lease expires at the end of this year and I would like to give my employees and volunteers the gift of meaningful employment and continued vocational opportunities in 2017 and beyond. Please support my dream and donate and share this campaign.
