 ALAMEDA, CA
The award winnning Kamakura restaurant, owned by beloved Alameda resident Faith Yamato, recently suffered a devastating fire that has closed the restaurant until repairs can be made. We want to raise funds to help the Kamakura reopen and to support the employees while the restaurant is closed.

I'm Steve King, my business partner, Christine Gonsalves, and I co-own the Whales & Friends gift store in Alameda and we're both residents of Alameda.

Like so many Alamedans, Christine and I have been patrons of the Kamakura restaurant since it opened 35 years ago. We've had a very friendly relationship with Faith, the Kamkura's owner, as we're both small business owners who like to compare how business is doing for each of our enterprises.

Our fondness for Faith and the Kamakura's staff goes beyond friendship, the restaurant and the people who make it special feel like extended family... and this is why we wanted to leap into action and help Faith get the restaurant open again, and to help the staff get by while they're unemployed.

The funds we're raising will be used by Faith to help to pay for what's needed to speed the Kamakura's reopening and to pay expenses not covered by her insurance. We also intend for the funds to help the Kamakura's staff to cope with the costs of being unemployed while Faith and her son, Wayne Yamato, work to get the restaurant open again. We're hoping that most of the staff can somehow get by until the Kamakura opens rather than having to seek employment elsewhere.

Funds raised for the Kamkura's fire restoration GoFundMe campaign will be sent directly to Faith or Wayne's bank account(s) so they can immediately disperse funds to pay reopening and staff support related expenses.

Kamakura Supporters—

We just surpassed the $10K goal we set for helping the Kamakura to reopen its doors. I'm sure Faith and her son Wayne are gratified by the outpouring of affection and support that's been directed their way.

Wayne mentioned to me in an email earlier today that when the GoFundMe campaign reached its initial goal that he would begin withdrawing funds and distributing it equally to the twenty employees on their payroll.

Hopefully the employees can get by on unemployment or find other temporary work until the Kamakura is up and running again... in any case, the help we're providing the Kamakura's employees will certainly make a difference and be greatly appreciated!

Hopefully the insurance settlement, once it arrives, will cover most of the restoration costs... and the city of Alameda won't drag its feet in getting permits issued for all the repair work that needs to be done.

I've been told by the Yamato family that Faith wants nothing more than to be able to greet and serve her customers again... as she's done almost every day for 35 years!

Again, thank you for supporting the Kamakura Fire Restoration campaign.

Warm regards, Steve King & Christine Gonsalves

Thanks to all of you, we're almost there!

We're just a few hundred dollars from our goal of raising $10K to help Faith, her son Wayne, and the staff of the Kamakura get the restaurant's doors open again.

It's gratifying to see the outpouring of support for the Kamakura and to know that so many people appreciate all that Faith, Wayne, the Yamato family, and the restaurant's staff have done over the decades to make living and dining in Alameda so special.

The reopening of the Kamakura is going to be a cause for celebration! I can't wait...

Warm regards, Steve King & Christine Gonsalves

Dear Kamakura Supporters,

I've been laid low with the flu and I'm still not feeling 100%, so I'll keep this short. I want to highlight the fact that we've just passed $7K toward our goal of raising $10K to help Faith get the Kamakura's doors open again. I'll be working with Faith's son, Wayne, to get the first transfer of funds into the family's hands as soon as possible so they can accelerate the restoration and help support the staff until the Kamakura reopens.

More soon...

Friends of the Kamakura,

It's been just a little over five days since we started our campaign to help Faith reopen the Kamakura and to support her staff while they're unemployed. The media attention to Faith's plight and the support our campaign has generated is most gratifying.

We surpassed the halfway mark of $5K earlier today, and I'm quite optimistic we'll reach our ultimate funding goal of $10K in a week or two...

I found out today that the Trabocco restaurant located in the Southshore shopping center is planning to hold a fundraiser for the Kamakura. What a wonderful gesture of support this would be from restauranteur to fellow restauranteur. I'll let you know when I have more details about this event.

For now, thank you for your generous support. It's greatly appreciated!

Warm regards,

Steve King & Christine Gonsalves

Mrs. Yamato, my girlfriend and I have enjoyed your amazing restaurant for years, and seeing your lovely face always makes us smile. Good luck with the restoration, we know Kamakura will be like new in no time. And thank you Mr. King for setting up this GoFundMe effort!
